I have been working with Ingres since 1990 – starting as a developer writing code with Ingres 4GL and C and then moving into DBA and System Admin roles.

Over the years I have been involved in many Ingres version upgrades and worked across a number of different industries including manufacturing, superannuation, finance, banking and telecoms.

Most of the Ingres databases I have managed have been running on Solaris, but have also had experience with Digital Unix and VMS (the good old days!).

I have always felt that Ingres has been one of the best databases out there – especially when comparing the effort required to keep it up and running efficiently compared to the other big database vendors out there.
